Arch Majesty

Arches National Park, June 2011.  More scenes from North and South Windows, as well as some views of Turret Arch

South Window Arch Looking North

Right Brain:  The sheer amount of rock suspended in one of these arches is just amazing.  And the fact that it is stable and isn't at the point of collapse is even more amazing.  That trees can live and grow out of the rock base is also amazing.  However, for me, the sky is what makes this photo.  There's almost an ethereal glow around the arch.
A Slice of a View

Right Brain: Composition is always a challenge.  Arches makes "standard" compositions really easy.  The arches beg to be photographed, showing sky through the big hole in the rock.  Easy enough.  So easy that Left Brain could probably get some decent shots without trying too hard.  However, I like to see if I can come up with something different in a composition, just for the sake of seeing where it takes us.  What came to mind in the above photo is a squinting eye.  Not sure if it worked, but I do think that the picture is interesting...
